First MacBook Pro With OLED Display Expected In 2026, But One Feature Will Be Missing

There have long been various rumors around Apple working on a new MacBook Pro with an OLED display, and a new report now claims that it will finally arrive in 2026. But there will be one change that we might not have seen coming.

According to Omdia analyst Lina Lin, via a MacRumors report, the 2026 timeframe looks likely for a new OLED version of the MacBook.

It’s likely that the MacBook Pro will be the model to get the first OLED displays, although Lin didn’t specifically mention that model.

The move to an OLED display will allow for improved brightness and contrast as well as deeper blacks and lower power usage, something that could help improve battery life. The new machines are also expected to sport M6, M6 Pro, and M6 Max chips.

As MacRumors points out, a report from the same research outfit last year suggested that the MacBook Pro will ditch the notch in favor of a hole-punch camera, something the OLED display would allow. There was no mention of this in Lin’s report, so it’s unclear whether that is still in the cards or, indeed, it ever was.

Whatever happens with the notch, these refreshed Macs are expected to arrive in or around October 2026, but Apple’s plans could well change before then.
